Indian Shipbuilders Association (ISBA), established in 1985 and registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, is headquartered in New Delhi. ISBA is the industry body dedicated to promoting and advancing India’s shipbuilding, warship construction, ship repair, and maritime sectors.

With a focus on innovation, research, and development, ISBA works to enhance productivity, drive technological excellence, and foster sustainable industry growth. The Association actively collaborates with government authorities, industry stakeholders, and allied bodies to shape policy, advocate regulatory reforms, and support strategic initiatives vital to the sector’s long-term development.

ISBA plays a key role in strengthening India’s commercial and defence shipbuilding ecosystem, aiming for global recognition and competitiveness. It represents and champions the collective interests of national shipyards and associated industries across public, private, and government platforms.

Key objectives of ISBA include:

  • Promote Growth and Competitiveness – Advance the interests of Indian shipyards by fostering innovation, cost competitiveness, and capacity restructuring.
  • Policy Advocacy – Engage with government bodies to influence policy on taxation, subsidies, exports, training, and industry standards.
  • Encourage Research & Development – Support R&D in shipbuilding, ship repair, and related fields, including productivity techniques and standardisation.
  • Facilitate Collaboration – Promote cooperation among member shipyards, ancillary industries, and allied sectors to address shared challenges and opportunities.
  • Capacity Building & Training – Organise training programmes and collaborate with academic institutions to enhance technical and managerial skills in the sector.
  • Knowledge Sharing & Events – Conduct seminars, conferences, exhibitions, and expert panels to disseminate best practices and technological advancements.
  • International Representation – Represent the Indian shipbuilding sector in global forums and foster strategic partnerships with foreign entities.
  • Export & Procurement Support – Assist members in securing export orders and facilitate centralised procurement to leverage economies of scale.
  • Public Awareness & Industry Image – Enhance visibility of the industry’s contributions through outreach, exhibitions, and awareness campaigns in India and abroad.
  • Organisational Support – Manage resources, staff, and advisory panels efficiently, and ensure the Society’s governance through regular meetings, reporting, and compliance.

Office Bearers of ISBA

ISBA is guided by a team of experienced leaders from its member organizations, entrusted with overseeing its strategic direction and operations. The office bearers are appointed for a two-year tenure, with responsibilities rotating among member shipyards to ensure broad representation and inclusive leadership.
